Problem with cockroaches? We can sort it!
Why are Cockroaches such a problem?
Cockroaches are a serious public health pest in the UK, with the German Cockroach (Blattella germanica) and Oriental Cockroach (Blatta orientalis) being the most common species found indoors.
They thrive in warm, humid environments and are typically found in kitchens, bathrooms, and behind appliances. Cockroaches are nocturnal and can remain hidden for long periods, making infestations difficult to detect early.
While there is no specific legal requirement for the general public to control cockroaches, businesses—especially those in food handling and hospitality—must comply with health and safety regulations under the Food Safety Act 1990. Prompt treatment is essential to prevent contamination and reputational damage.

Damage Caused by Cockroaches
Cockroaches are known to carry and spread harmful bacteria and allergens, posing a serious risk to health.
The damage they cause includes:
- Contamination of food and food preparation areas
- Spread of diseases such as Salmonella and E. coli
- Allergic reactions and asthma triggers, especially in children
- Foul odours from secretions and waste
- Damage to packaging, fabrics, and stored items
Infestations can escalate quickly if left untreated. Early intervention is essential to protect health and property.
How to Get Rid of Cockroaches
Eliminating cockroaches can be challenging and usually requires a combination of professional treatment and good hygiene practices.
Common removal methods include:
- Application of insecticidal sprays or gels in targeted areas
- Use of cockroach bait stations to reduce populations
- Monitoring traps to track activity and reinfestation
- Sealing of cracks, gaps and entry points
- Removal of food sources and deep cleaning of affected areas
Cockroach infestations are rarely solved with a single visit. A pest control expert will carry out a thorough assessment and recommend a tailored treatment plan.

We contacted The Pest Company on a day when we first saw wasps in our soffits/roof and they were really friendly and efficient. A couple of days later they were at our house and dealt with the issue. However, as we were out on the day they came they couldn't have access to any interior areas. This long 'story' is basically to say that, when we noticed that there was still an issue and told them, they were equally as quick, efficient and professional as before and sorted the interior issue extremely quickly. We couldn't praise and thank them enough. Connor (who was their representative) was an extremely polite, efficient and knowledgeable guy and he, 100%, sorted things for us quickly. Again, we can't thank and praise him enough.Posted on Google![]()

Frequently asked questions
What are the common signs of a cockroach infestation in the UK?
Look for live or dead cockroaches, droppings that resemble black pepper, smear marks along walls or floors, shed skins, egg cases, and a strong, musty odour. You may also notice increased activity at night in kitchens or bathrooms.
Are cockroaches dangerous to humans?
Yes. Cockroaches can spread harmful bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli, contaminate food, and trigger allergies or asthma—especially in children. Their presence poses serious health risks in both homes and businesses.
What is the most effective way to get rid of cockroaches?
A combination of professional pest control treatments and strict hygiene measures works best. This includes insecticidal sprays or gels, bait stations, and sealing entry points, alongside deep cleaning to remove food and water sources.
Can I get rid of cockroaches without using chemicals?
While sealing entry points, removing food sources, and maintaining strict hygiene can reduce cockroach numbers, complete eradication often requires professional treatment with targeted products that are safe for use in homes and businesses.
How long does it take for cockroach pest control to work?
Some reduction in activity can be seen within days, but multiple visits are often needed to fully break the breeding cycle and ensure the infestation is eliminated. Follow-up inspections are key to preventing a recurrence.
