Effective rat control in York
Getting rid of rats properly takes more than a quick fix. Our approach follows three clear stages:
- Inspection and identification: Confirm activity, species and likely routes
- Treatment: Use the right method to reduce and remove the infestation
- Proofing: Highlight access points and steps to prevent re-entry
Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, we inspect thoroughly and focus on the root cause, including drainage where appropriate, to help prevent recurring rat problems in York.

Residential Properties
In residential areas of York, rats commonly gain access through:
- Gaps around pipes, damaged vents or broken brickwork
- Hidden routes through wall cavities and into loft spaces
- Drainage defects, including cracked joints and unused connections
Our rat inspections in York cover both the interior and exterior of the property, helping us identify entry points and likely travel routes.
If we suspect a drainage issue, we may recommend a CCTV Rat Drain Survey to get a clear view of the underground pipework.
Commercial rat treatment in York
For businesses in York, rats can create major issues around hygiene, compliance, brand reputation and staff welfare.
We support commercial sites across York with a practical, prevention-led service that can include:
- A detailed site survey to identify risk areas and access routes
- Internal and external proofing recommendations to reduce entry
- Drain checks and ongoing monitoring for higher-risk locations
- Guidance on waste management, storage and housekeeping standards
A CCTV drain inspection is often essential for persistent commercial infestations.
Frequently asked questions in York
Do rats go away on their own?
Usually not. If there’s shelter, warmth, and a food source, rat activity tends to persist or worsen. Early action is typically cheaper and simpler.
How long does it take to get rid of rats?
It depends on activity level, access routes, and whether proofing/drain issues are involved. After inspection, we’ll outline expected timelines and next steps.
Do you provide proofing in York?
- We’ll provide proofing recommendations as part of the service and can advise on the priority fixes (vents, gaps around pipes, entry points, etc.) to help reduce repeat infestations.
Could the rats be coming from the drains?
Yes – especially with recurring issues. A CCTV Rat Drain Survey can confirm defects or access points and guide repairs.
Is treatment safe around children and pets?
We work to best practice and apply site-specific safety measures. Tell us about children/pets on the call so we can plan appropriately and give clear precautions.
Do you cover commercial premises?
Yes, offices, retail, hospitality, warehouses and more across York and the surrounding areas.
